Here is an image of an Airspeed Oxford coming in for a low pass during WW II. Clearly some of the airman trust the pilot more than others.

I always hope the spectators are taking the diameter of the prop into consideration. Modern viewers, used to jet propulsion, probably wouldn't.

There's an inherent trust between military mechanics and military pilots. It's an earned trust though.

No, I haven't. The closest I ever came was reading the spoof that Mad Magazine did of the movie back in 1971 titled "Catch-All-22." Being 6 years old at the time (1972), I didn't really get it.
